Her Royal Highness's Annual Festive Musical Celebration Spotlights Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with a congregation comprising members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The 1,600 guests will enjoy a mix of carols, music and readings from performers including Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Focusing on Compassion and Love

The focus of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the concert.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to public life following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her first public speech for two years, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Guests arriving at the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers backed by the Future Talent charity, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the charity, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Within the audience will be representatives of different generations.

That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for food banks.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been decorated with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
